I really need some advice on what kind of slabs, paving to use for my patio. I am so confused.
Initially we were going to go for the saxon slab from marshals in buff which is textured. We have been told by the man who would be fitting it to avoid textured due to problems with keeping it clean and pitting. The other slabs we liked were riven but we have been advised to avoid this also due to the morter between the joins becoming a problem.
We just want a nice looking patio thats within budget. We have 40sqm and have a budget of £1100 for the materials. We just dont know what to go for now. We would also consider using block paving but we dont know anyone who has this as a patio, Ive only ever seen it on driveways.
What would you reccomend we look for? we have been to so many places but given conflicting advice each time. What would you guys recommend?
Sounds like me about a year ago. I was originally going to get manmade slabs but went for a slabs made from Indian Sandstone which is narural stone. http://ext.pavingexpert.com/cgi-bin....=wickes
Like any other slab they will get dirty and will need cleaning but the colour in natural products won't fade like the dyes they use in manmade products.
May cost you more in labour to have them layed though. Sandstone needs a proper sub base and sand/cement bedding layer.

As for riven joints being problem, if done properly it shouldn't be. Unless you paver was going to simply sweep some sand in the joints. Then it will a dead easy job for him but cause problems for you at a later date when it's all washed out. http://www.pavingexpert.com/pointing.htm

No need to be confused. You say that you have a budget of £1100. Check out the following links. All the items in the links range from £16-£18 + VAT per m2. So you would have plenty of change from £1100
