Hi all,
Ive been asked to give a quote to lay an asphalt path for a local school. Could some one please advise me would a 1" layer of 6mm top coat be enough on a 4" crusher-run base or would i need a thicker top coat?. The path only has light usage.
Any help much appreciated.
cheers.

Dave_L is resident asphalt expert he'll be on later but when ever we have done pavements/paths always been type 1 subbase/asphalt base course/asphalt surface course
check the main website, schools councils dont accept sub standards specification though. even with light use there's be no strength in just surface course sat ontop of some rough crusher run.

when we have done school stuff I am sure it was 70 mm of 20mm stuff on top of 100mm type1 ,and topped with 50mm of 6mm
as giles said school work has to meet certain standards regardless of usage
I am surprised you haven't got a phonebook of method statements, risk assessments, and specifications for every part of the job
cheers LLL

cheers for the help everyone . I thought just 25mm of top coat didnt sound right, but thats what i was informed was right by the bloke i spoke to on the phone when i rang for a price, Even when i questioned it he was adiment it was right so thats why i thought this would be the right place to find out. As for the method statements and risk assesments they havent been mentioned, even when weve done work here before so im keeping my mouth firmly sealed, just a big pain in the ring in my opinion!
Thanks again, this should help me give an accurate quote.
