You must mean a 1000mm radius? You are looking to establish the chord length of a curve (segment of a circle). Can let you have the formula tomorrow, but - Check elseware on this site or in Tony's book (I've seen it someware) for the layout of fans, or draw it on the ground and lay out the fan.

the circumference of a circle is 2 pi R ,the area is pi R2
so if your radius is 1 m and pi is 3.14159265
("may i have a large container of coffee please",is an easy way to remember pi)
so your circumference will be 6.3 m (approx) so your arc length would be 3.14 m and you would have roughly 28 cubes in the big fan
are you getting it yet?
cheers LLL

Noted on the site the use of metal frames to get the layout correct as well

Fully aware of your abilities in this department Cookie you will probably get a lookin on the project. We are keen to use mesh backed on this one though. Ours actually are pretty close to the "proper" pattern quite heavy though at 39.21kg per unit but look the part. Client wants mixed colour porphyry with an accent towards the frets which we have covered supply wise. So if he decides to go down the loose route I will be in touch.
