Hi,

I want to lay a patio with flags that extend into adjacent planting beds/areas of gravel fill with a staggered edge and need some advice on how to detail the sub construction.

Creating a complex shaped concrete base seems over the top but laying hardcore square and then excavating the areas for planting seems like it might undermine the strength of the base.

Any advice?

Thanks

Type 1 subbase to the rough shape of your patio the once done excavate excess and backfill with soil. Don't worry about undermining etc just use common sense to determine where to stop.
