Lead water pipe - What shall i do with it.

I have excavated about 5 metres of lead pipe during the course of preparing my front garden for paving. I'm going to replace this with a length of blue MDPE pipe.

But what should I do with the old lead pipe. I would imagine that due to the environmental nature of lead, you cannot just take it to the tip?

Lead is also expensive nowadays. Do you think that Is it possible to sell it? Is there a market for second hand lead and what should I expect to get for it.

take it to your local scrap merchant and they will "buy" it off you.

stick it in the shed and wait for scrap prices to pick up or sell it now and pay the scrappy to take it :p

Looks like I'll just have to take it to the local scrap yard instead.

at over £1 a kilo lead is worth the trip

I am slowly collecting copper. Ive got about 15kg at the moment.
Anyone know the going rate as a scrap?

stripped wire aka bright copper wire (which doesn't have to be bright) is £4.60 a Kg at the moment, weighed in 9 on friday, I guess clean pipe would sit close to this.

be careful where you go dan i find sita always give the best rates.
its pikey central in these places and the thieving gits are everywhere,trying to buy stuff off you etc etc

18mts ago you were better walking into b&q and spending £400 on copper and it at selling at the scrappy for £500.

not the case now, even china is on a slow down
