I had a vehicular crossing constructed a few months ago.
The contractor was supposedly local authority approved but he has done a lousy job - so bad that the Highways inspector failed the job initially - he said the tarmac was too soft.
It has hardened up somewhat now but drivers are using the lowered pavement as a turning circle and the front tyres turning when the car is stationary is scuffing up the surface and loosening the tarmac in places.
I've heard of surface dressings such as Drive Seal - will that protect the surface and mabye bind the tarmac together and give a more durable surface - or would that be a waste of money?
Or does anyone know of any other product that will make the surface a bit harder and bind the tarmac together or at least slow down the rate of deterioration?
I'm almost certain that when it goes - I will have to pay to repair it !!!!!

Drive Seal is just a 'Cover Up', a glorified paint that restores the 'blackness' to a bitmac surface. It will not harden the surface or make it less prones to damage and scuffing.
There was a product on the British market that could achieve what you require, but it was never a big seller and it was withdrawn in the late 90s. I know that such products are available, particularly in the States, but they are damned hard, if not impossible, to find over here.
However, I'll ask a possible source to chip in, if they can.

It's incredibly frustrating to watch this post! We manufacture a wide range of products specifically designed for asphalt drive repair, but I have no distribution in the UK at this time.
The good news is that the products WILL be available in the UK soon, most likely in late autumn of this year. The bad news is that they won't be available in the UK until late autumn. :)
Our drive coatings are manufactured with asphalt, so they renew and replenish the oils in the existing surface, not just cover the drive for a few weeks or months and then flake off and wash down the drain. They also include latex so that the coatings can move (to some extent) with the surface of the drive, and have sand in the mix to fill small cracks and help reduce slipping on a wet surface.

I'm hoping to run a feature on them as soon as Amy gets the distribution deal resolved. There's a genuine need for products such as these - they are more than just cover-ups, they actually strengthen the existing bitmac, as well as making the surfacing look brand new all over again.
