Access cover problem

Foul and surface water, private drains and public sewers, land drains and soakaways, filter drains and any other ways of getting rid of water.

Hi,

Have a drain right in the middle of the driveway that the car must run over.

Its fitted with a 600x450 Top Access Cover ( clarke ) on to a concrete reducing slab, which has been concreted in for many years.

The cover actually started to split and the new one would not fit the old steel frame despite a good bit of help from a lump hammer, so I had to use the new plastic frame.

Although the new concrete forms a large boarder of 150mm around the frame, its only lasted about 18 months before crumbling away - seems like the weight of the car constantly moves the plastic frame, so crumbling the thinner concrete around it and letting the water get in.

Any suggestion as to how I can stop this, cannot seem to find any covers with steel frames which would seem more suitable.
( would add a picture but cannot see how you do that - image = ulr ? )

thanks

Ricky

Use a B125 600*450 cover, 40mm deep on a decent bed of mortar.

Hi Dave,

Think as you say it will have to be one of those B125 - not cheap though - first local price - £90 compared to the pressed steel one I have at £15 - still as they say - you gets what you pays for !

cheers
