Lime bedding mortar - have i messed up?

Yesterday I finished laying a new hearth, using slate flagstones reclaimed from other bits of the house. The flags are on a base of 1 part NHL 3.5 lime, 6 parts sand. Its a deep bed - between 30 and 60mm depending on the depth of stone on top. I used building sand, and have since found out (on this website!) its a no-no for this kind of work.
I would prefer not to lift and relay the flags, whats the verdict on whether my efforts are adequate? The stones have a free edge facing the room - is all the sand going to squidge out over time? The hearth will have a multifuel stove on top, perhaps a cat as well. Any hints very gratefully received.

why didnt you use cement?
lime mortar is ok for brickwork but even heritage accept it aint much kop for laying flags etc
but if you hearth is sound and not rocking it will probably be ok for the application you intend using it for
