Mud going down the drain

Hi all,
DH and I are currently trying to rectify a water pooling situation that happens under our carport every time there is a huge downpour. We end up with 4 inches of water that won't go down the drain. We've dug it up and it was the old clay piping which we will replace with plastic, this piping was completely chock full of mud.
My question is:
Is there any way we can stop mud going down the drain (or even slow down what gets in there???) Sorry if this is a stupid or repeated question but we're at our wits end.
We're in Brisbane, Australia so if you use terms can you bear in mind that we might now know them (or could you use the Aussie variations if you have them)
Cheers for your help!!!

Hi shelly, welcome. what are you draining to at the moment? I suspect ( if it's silting up ) you have a hopper on top of a 90 bend. You should put in a yard gully, or if it is really bad, maybe a road gully. they will catch the silt/mud etc; and you can empty them from time to time. go to the main index drainage pages.
