Hi guys, firstly im a complete novice to laying bricks or slabs of any kind but im looking to have a go myself as i'll never learn otherwise!

Basically im completely re-doing my garden, aim is to have a circular lawn which will be bordered with a different colour brick, and then to lay a path extension the the existing patio leading upto the shed base (i managed to do the shed base myself, was chuffed lol)

I have been told by someone to dig down, 4-5 inches below the existing patio, then to fill this with type 1 gravel and sand and lay the new slabs ontop of this, making sure its level with pegs etc. Does this sound rite?

Also how would i go about laying the bricks round the outers?

To lay the new slabs against the lawn id have to cut them to meet the curved edge, how would this be done? what tool is needed?

I was thinking to save hassle i would lay the path square anyway and just lay some shillings etc to the curved etc

Just looking for abit of direction and encouragement so i know where im heading! I have started the digging already but not finished yet but have attached pics so you get an idea of how i mean. The lawn needs to be made more circular i know! lol

Any help is GREATLY appreciated

too add i havent read the main sections in detail yet on the site yet as 5 mins left of lunch but have printed them off ready to read through tonight

Thanks

Dan

Suf.......

If thats the base you have done in the picture then bravo, looks like a prpoer job. It can be a bit scary when you read more detail on what you are trying to acheive but instead break it down into stages.
Continue with the digging and once you have the shape etc, you'll be advised what to do next.

Costs really depends where abouts in the country you are as it can vary quite a bit..

As the rest of the blokes have said, I reckon you can do this... take your time etc - it'll be a brilliant feeling at the end, then you post photies here.
Keep going mate.

Knock a peg in the middle of the lawn and use a string from this to arc out the circle shape before you start digging, you`ll get a perfect circle this way...

I was using that method last week richie digging footings for some entrance walls , after a bit of measuring and squaring things up to get the peg in the right place we got the ends of two walls curving in nicely, i tied a can of spray on the end of some draw cord :)

I'll follow the main section and if i get confused or need advice i will drop in here, will let you's know how it goes! :)

Hi dan.
I see you are piling the soil up as you dig. Try and take it out to your skip, or wherever you are dumping it, this way you only handle it once, saves a lot of time :;): well done so far.
