i have been talking to a guy today about the above trail, he said the same about people going missing, is this true or is it just a bit of twisted legend?

away from the weat and east coasts you have vast areas of nothing, my mate used to live in LA and he said if you went an hour into the mountains you wouldnt see a soul for days at a time

Been doin a bit more reasearch on the subject and the stories about brutal murders and abductions on the trail appear to be true, 9 murders in total plus abductions and deaths due to human error (falls etc) also i found that there were hikers killing other hikers, i can only assume this is due to them being scared and thinking its a hill billy coming for them!! if i were to go on that id be armed to the eyeballs, would look more like a soldier than a hiker....

The sense of achievement upon completion must be good though.

The pacific crest trail seems a bit safer

Went away for a few days last week up to Yorkshire, and on the shelf in the cottage, Walk in the Woods - Bill Bryson. Remembered this thread on here, and had to read it

Read it by the next morning.

Enjoyed it by large, although some bits seemed a bit rushed, and others a bit long winded, and I thought the ending was pretty abrupt.
