Hi,
Does anyone know of a good contractor in my area. I live in Hoghton, lancashire which is miday between Blackburn and Preston. I'm looking to get my driveway re-done and have a patio and garden wall built. The driveway will be approx. 120 sq meters and the patio will be 56 sq meters.

We do Giles, just not that much more flagging than ewt else, thats basically all we did last year, hence the question of what he would like his drive doing in.

Good point there on the website, im that busy at the moment i just dont have the time or the energy to sort it out, having to take a few more lads on if a few projects come off, plus im lacking good quality photos.

Thanks for all the replies so far.

The plan at the moment is to block pave the drive and flag the patio but happy to take advice.

Need to add that there will be an amount of drain work required as the previous owner managed to bury 4 manhole covers under tons of soil.

My advice is in this situation would be to obtain more than one quote in the first place. So as good practice it would seem wise to accept other contractors offers of quoting. It is the advice we give to anyone when they are seeking to have work done.

make sure you get a written specification so you are comapring like with like or spec your own,
e.g.

lay x m2 of x block paving on 100 or 150mm consolidated type 1 MOT (dependent on use and sub soil)
provide concrete haunched edges x metres

lay x m2 manufacturer indian stone/marshalls x slabs etc
on 8-1 sharp sand bed
on 100mm compacted mot
point with 3-1 blah blah blah ....

then you know exactly what you are getting you can give it to a contractor otherwise you will get 3 quotes with different or no spec's and it'll be very hard to compare like for like prices. people will use cheaper slabs or blocks etc etc

make sure you see previous jobs etc

I think the majority of blokes on here are based in the north west, you have a high chance of bumping into anyone of them :)
