My house is 19 years old and on a modern 'executive' (I hate that term!) estate. There are no access chambers or manholes on my property. I want to find out if the drains are a dual or combined system. Is there an easy test, or something obvious to look for? I don't want to dig a big hole if it's not strictly necessary... Will anyone (council?) have plans of the drainage system that may reveal the answer?
Cheers,
Mol
Drain - what type?
Your's will most probably be a Dual system as combined systems are exceptionally rare on 1980s developments and there had to be very, very, very extenuating circumstances for a combined system to be used. Even on estates/developments that had only access to a combined main swer, the estate drtainage was kept separate until a few metres before it met up with the main sewer, where a coombining manhole would be constructed.
Your local BCO will have plans for the devlopment, showing the layout of the drainage as designed, which is not always exactly the same as the layout actually installed, but I'll bet 10p that they will take at least a month to find the drawings!
