Marshalls saxon coping - Coping stones

Hello chaps not been in for a while hope you are all ok.
I have a long run of marshalls saxon coping stones to lay and was wondering how you would go about it.Because they are rough faced and can vary in width up to 5mm due to them having bumps along the edges of them,trying to keep them in line ish is going to be awkward.
Would you still use a string line?I would imagine that i would have to have the wider copings at each far end then string between them?
Your help would be much appreciated.

personally would use a string line and your eye. ???

I wouldn't bother with a line as long as the wall is well built then a consistant mortar bed and a good eye will be fine it will also allow you to split the tolerances front and back. Any edges that are too wide then chip them down with a trowel edge and they'll blend nicely.

You should find that the tops arris is true and can be accurately laid to a taut string line. The face is uneven, which makes alignment along the face impractical, but because that face is produced by using a hydraulic splitter, the arris on either side is a straight line (assuming the splitter blades were straight!)

I did wonder if doing it the way you suggest tony would be better as there appears to be a straight edge before it goes down the face which is uneven.I could string to this then if need be just go down the length afterwards and make any adjustments so it is ok to the eye.
