on the geotextile question never use that woven crap, haha its what they sell in b&q

not quite correct GB, and if I thought for one minute that the woven stuff was a problem whilst being under 150mm of MOT on a domestic driveway whilst being compacted with a 120 bomag or vibrating plate I would change it

as it happens its not a problem, your wrong to say its crap and its not from B&Q

is it subbase or top layer?
Geo-textiles within asphalt/macadam have a reinforcing function that makes for a stronger pavement capable of taking heavier loads at reduced surfacing thickness, It's probably best to think of them as being similar to mesh in concrete.
