got me good and proper well not yet but

got a call form a woman claiming to be the police magazine for my area blah blah blah etc reputable company etc

would i be interested, fatal error i said yes i'd be interested and then had second though asked for number and said i'd call back

googled it and its an out and out scam

spoke to the police never heard of them, spoke to fraud line they cant do anything till its actually cost me money

story goes they print a shot advert then hit you with a 100 invoice and threaten you with debt collectors.

spoke with consumer line and apparently thats enough to warrant a verbal contract, so i'm writing to them recorded delivery and see how goes.

number she gave doesn;t accpet incoming calls

advanced publication, street watch was the publication. proper good sale, police dont seem to care they are using their name.

more hassle

haha yeah i was thinking about her, thinking i shouldnt have binned her of so soon even if she was thinking long term to soon haha

but moving out on friday and buying a new house and need 60k, the financing i had in place has now gone so was trying to sort a mortgage out short notice and think they got me with the police thing, fell for the trust issue silly me.

apparently they get lots of people this way though, and most dont pay just get hassled they never send balifs or take anyone to court they just hassle the naive ones who pay up for a quiet life.

so be on your guard they do police, fire etc there loads on line if you google advanced publications scam

You have to follow the advice we give to our customers looking for paving work - don't ever accept a cold call!

If some cute hoor knocks on the door offering to 'tarmac the driveway', we know to send them packing, so why do we fall for telephone muggings so easily? It's the same principle: they are robbing you.

If I want summat, I'll go out and get it. It's highly unlikely that anyone will call, email or telephone to offer summat I hadn't known I needed.

When they call to ask to speak to our "marketing department" (that's me, too!) simply telling them 'no' seems to deflate their spirit. There's usually a few seconds before the best of them ask why not, to which the answer is, "they don't take calls!".

i had to ring the dreaded eon customer services today regarding meters in rental properties
anyway my minor question was soon answered but the lovely sounding young lady (eon is in bolton and that accent is lovely on lasses) started the hard sell about boiler cover
I said "i dont need boiler cover as i am a gas safe heating engineer"
to which she replied in that lilting accent "but we do very competitive rates mr lout?"

why would a plumber <cough cough> need boiler insurance?
I had a rented place that they have informed me i now owe £1100 from 2005-2007
if i was an OAP i would be suicidal
anyway i kicked up a fuss and its down to £200
i shall carry on till its £00)
how could I as a landlord owe money from a card meter that was controlled by a long gone tenant?
the boggle minds
