yes but tommy ,you can be sure as night follows day ,they will make the greatest comeback since Lazarus the following day.
TBH i worked with a fella ben for 12 years and we had maybe 10 sick days each in that time, if he had a big night out coming up .i.e. 21st ,stag do or something he would book a day off,so when he was ill i knew it was genuine,in fact i sent him home a few times when he came in looking grey
its my pet hate when people don't come in and wont answer their phones,my old man is due to retire in 8 weeks and there bombs going under a selection of subbies with selective deafness to their phones,

does he notify you when he is absent. if he doesnt and he has a company veichle which contains tools that are required for the job then i think you have a good case against him. Even if he is really sick you are entitled to be notified.

Another way is to mess up some of his work when hes not looking then give him warnings that if it doesnt improve then your out lol

when i worked in munich, i didn't miss one day in 2 years. got sent home at 2pm after we had a prawn stir fry in the canteen, got a specail chef in with turbo wok thing and 8 of our team by 2 o clock were projectile vomiting. i was in next day they weren't in for 3 days.

work took us to octoberfest free carnage haha, next morning i was the only one out of 24 people in, i was only a placement student but ended up running the office. boss came in at 2pm looking grey to find me running the show haha. i was there with 3 other students from my uni and they all did the usual thing ring up at 10 or 11 saying sick after we'd been out the night before. i'd been brought up with a good work ethic and felt i was an ambassador so made sure i didn;t miss a day sick, had my holidays etc but always booked well in advance,

i have days off now, but i can i'm the boss haha and i dont work i dont get paid only when nothing on like, but moving house so packing up.

Does anyone use the Bradford scale?

In this year period, I have 6 points. Most of the Lads have 150 odd points, and one has nigh on 300, - whenever he is off, it is known as a Bradford holiday, and usually coincides with the first day of test match cricket.

Only had time for ankle problems, and a Kidney infection, all involving hospital trips.

the mrs (whos a Hr manager) says you can discipline for poor attendance, even though (I am guessing) you don't have a sickness management policy, as long as the sickness is related to anything covered by the disability act, a decent employment solicitor would be able to advise. It may pay to introduce a sickness management policy for the future, in case the discipline doesn't have the desired effect. If i have a copy of my old companies one I will PM it to you.

I'd go down the road of withdrawing the phone and van as a first stage - contractually he would not be entitled to them though it may cause you hassle to have somebody else responsible for the van.

You can do this on the basis that you need the van, but obviously understand that he is going through a period of variable health...

Once he knows that he loses when he takes the piss, then you may start to see improvements.

As a matter of course you should also restate to ALL employees the rules about notification when off sick, time-keeping, etc.

From a managers point I suppose that is the correct procedure.

However for a worker that doesn't take the piss it must be annoying to be lectured because some lazy fecker has been caught out.
Tarring with the same brush!
