The scale of that building is just incredible. I find it hard to get my head around the morals and ethics of the whole UAE /Abu Dhabi developments though. It's all built on fake credit in a place that is becoming unihabitable and the exploitation of labour would make the slave trade look acceptable. At least 1 Indian or Bangladeshi labourer was killed every week during it's construction but because of their ranking on the pecking order work wouldn't stop and the bodies weren't repatriated. People are prepared to turn a blind eye to whats happening out there so they can have their slice of luxury it's not right.

I was there for a holiday 2 years ago and it was just one big building site - I loved it :D

the tower was up to floor 88 when I arrived and gained 3 more floors in height whilst i was there

where i stayed they was building 200 tower blocks all at the same time around the Dubai marina, health and safety was an issue then but the place was kept very clean and tidy and the standard of workmanship on the paving was very high

Granite Setts and Flags being pointed

the sad bit was every evening there was 1000's of guys sat or stood on the pavement all wearing overalls and hard hats waiting for the buses to take them home and the next shift to arrive, like cookie said they did not look happy but to have worked all day in the heat for £ 5 you would look pissed off too :(

when i first arrived I was amazed at the amount of guys all stood around, some working but lots not, was doing quick maths in my head on how much it was costing to lay this bit of pavement or shovel sand into a barrow because you see teams of 5 - 8 men everywhere and its only costing £ 25 - £ 40 a day per team, in the UK it would be 20 - 30 times more cost

my mate works as a QS in riyadh,in 18 months he has not seen 1 woman, a bottle of whisky costs £300 on the black market ,he gets £1200 per week tax free, and his Pakistani servants earn £2 per day
go figure
apparently the best time for dubai is ramadan, you can get the best hotels for reasonable money, but I have been advised to go executive level or all inclusive as drink can be extortionate
i struggle with my conscience going to these sort of places, not right paying $35 for a coffee when lads are grafting for $3 per day
LLL
"what,you want paying today??"
