Hi would just like to check something out with you guys, let's say you were creating around 50m patio and much of the soil was clay what measures should be taken for drainage.

If you were laying indian sandstone on this patio what method would be advisable to use.

Hope you can help

Thanks

Drainage of the surface water or drainage of the sub-layers?

Mainly surface water, however as the garden has been dug out by quite a lot it means where we previously had soil to soak up the water we now have clay. Does that make any sense ?

So: a soakaway won't work? If not, then draining to the SW ssytem is the answer: see Drainage for Pavements

Sorry to go back to this, the amount dug out has been around 1 metre and @ 13feet from the house down to 0 at the patio door, are we better to use compacted mill waste and lay the indian flags on wet mix or use sand to ease the drainage. Bear in mind we live on a hill and two land drains were removed when digging out.
