Tarmac driveway

Setts and cobbles, tarmac, asphalt, resin systems, concrete whether it's plain, patterned or stencilled, gravels, etc.

Hi

I was hoping someone could help me please.

Recently had my driveway done in tarmac, however I have noticed the odd few single blades of grass creeping through the rarmac which I have just pulled out.

To my knowledge, there was no weed control fabric put down before laying the tarmac.

I was wondering would weed killer do the trick if I was to pour it on the problem areas?

If rain can get through with it being pourous, surely weed killer will work to get rid of the grass?

please help

shame. certainly a failure there regarding subbase treatment if weeds are coming through. weedkiller may work if it's on isolated spots, as some are inorganic and won't damage the asphalt/bitumen (but may cause staining). your problem may arise from weeds sporadically appearing and you spending time treating different areas. a greater concern is stronger weeds breaking the asphalt causing little cracks allowing water ingress.

apologies for the bad news
i used to love using tarmac, but got fed up with getting my asphalt

I take it this was a full construction driveway - new subbase, binder and surface courses?

A picture would be handy, if you can't post one up PM me and I'll let you know my email etc and I'll bung it up.

Doesn't sound good to me :(

Thanks for the replies folks.

There was about 90mm taken up (was flagged originally with 3 by 2's) and I think a 60/40 hardcore/tarmac base.

It really is just single blades of grass, so im thinking it could just be on the surface so hoping once ive pulled them out they wont persist.

Its quite strange that where these blades of grass are appearing I don't remember there being grass there before I had it done.

Will try and get a picture up

It's surely growing on the surface and not through the driveway. Weed and grass seed can germinate on just about any surface but will usually die within a few weeks if it can't get a foothold.
Can't see it from my house
