Heavy rainfall - Laying paving after heavy rainfall

Hi, I am currently having my drive done, however on sunday after my contracter layed the sand we experienced 4-5 hrs of heavy rainfall and he has now said that we have to wait a few day for it to dry. Is this correct ?

Can we still lay the paving on the existing sand base or do we have to remove the existing and lay a new sand base? I am cautious that the sand will never sufficiently dry given the current temp.

As long as the sand was compacted before the rain ,it will be no problems give it a day or so to dry out,if it was not compacted leave it in heaps to let water run out off it MSH

i take it umean he has screeded an area and did not pave it and it has peed down

If the sand laying course has been compacted prior to the heavy rain then it can be screeded and the blocks can be laid but not compacted with the vibrating plate, it needs a few days for the water to subside before the work can be completed otherwise the vibrating plate will force the water up from the sand laying course and onto the surface of the block paving which can cause no end of problems if your not careful

if he has placed the sand laying course over the hard core but it has not been compacted then it "could" turn to slurry as soon as your contractor tries to compact the sand with the vibrating plate, if this is the case then he is correct in saying it need a few days to dry out

its been quite windy again today where I have been working which helps to dry out the sand or the block paving so the work can be completed, just because we have had a bad weather day it does not mean the sand has to be removed and replaced with more sand as you will end up with new wet sand from your local builders merchants anyway

The contractor had not compacted it prior to the rainfall...and it does still seem very wet (and the forecast does not look good for the rest of the week) he had just completed light screeding in some areas.
