Drainage - What kind of drainage

Hi, I want to flag my back garden and I am not sure what drainage system to use, my garden runs downwards away from the house, if i dont put any drainage at the bottom of the garden i am sure the water will build up into a pool.

Aco channel drains and a soakaway come to mind.

Hi Dave,

My garden is currently fully turfed, I plan to cover this with corse sand then flag straight on top, I thought about digging a trench along the bottom of the garden putting in a pot soak away drain, cover this with gravel then cover with a grid.

Do you think this would work???

You need to excavate at least 150mm below finished level and install a subase first!

I put down the turf myself 6 years ago and dug out about that depth, put back a corse top soil and spent a whole day with a wacker plate leveling the ground, if i remove the turf would that be ok, or will i still have to dig out again?

as dave said, dig it out. soil moves,settles. compacted type1 doesn't

soak away, size of which will depend on size of area to be drained and local ground conditions, use the site index to search for a whole page dedicated to soakaways.
