Hey guys take it easy .....they have been laid a few months and never gone green /patchy .
Ok we have had a little rain but it is rather funny only a week after the bero was applied i have encountered the above problem.
I agree yes flags will eventually turn green and yes it does need pointing but pointless pointing if there is defects in the flags and i have to take them up , also the other side of the patio the buffs are fine no green on them and they are the same flag and laid about same time withing a weeks or so and they are perfect no green and no patching.
When i applied the Bero you could actually hear the acid in it doing its work like fizzing noise.
I am waiting on some dry weather before i point the flags as it will be a dry mix.
Another picture of the patches and are you guys saying this is normal ?

the fact they are not pointed means water can lay in the joints and form algae especially now the sunshine is weak
i dont know why you left the pointing so long,you need to get all the crap out of the joints before you point it now

Yes pointing is a must and as soon as but why has my other buff flags not gone green and patchy like the grey ones as they are next to each other and laid about the same time.
My old fellow had his backs flagged 2 years ago and no green on them yet as mines only been down 2 months 8 weeks or so i feel the bero has contributed to taking a surface layer of the the flags exposing them to the weather over the last few weeks correct me if i am wrong .
i think that you are overcomplicating this noch ( no offence)
hoover out any crap in the joints and get pointing,easipoint would make a nice job of yours and once its gone off you can jet wash the whole lot
when spring comes you can then seal it
dont forget your dad's patio may be south facing,its all about sunlight and h2o

Hi mate thanks for asking and a bad subject as 1/3rd of the flags need re bedding after all the frost we have had as i did not get time with the wether to point the flags ....( Bad Mistake ) .
Maybe when it gets warmer i could just get away with pointing them as they don't actually rock as such just now when its been rainning you can hear a slight squelch under your feet and whats pissed me off most is they are all now green full of moss after so little time .
I'm sorry to hear that too after you put so much effort into it but it has been the worse winter for frost and sub zero temperatures for a long period and the worse that I have experienced for a good 18 - 20 years and has been doing a lot of damage through frost heave
through having no pointing between the joints its either been full of water or the bedding was wet or even just damp, the frost has penetrated into the joint and expanded, without seeing the job and this is a bit of an unconventional way to stop the flags from rocking but does work if done correctly.
if you pour grout down the joints using neat cement and water which will run down under the flag and fill any voids, basically get a bucket pour water about a third full, get a bag of cement and keep adding cement and mix together until it starts to become just stiffer than the water, pour between the flags until it still leaves enough depth to get your pointing in the joints and then move on to the next area
it can be very messy if your not careful, when you have finished make sure you wash every bit off the flags using a hose pipe, you don't have to blast it off just nice and careful with a fine mist or medium pressure just to push the last bit of cement on the surface down the joint
don't walk on any of it for a least 24 hours and it should solve the problem, like I said its not a conventional way of doing flagging and I accept no responsibility for the process not working but it will solve your problem without having to relay a third of your flags, wait a few more weeks before trying this method as the frost is still retuning and then get the flags pointed ASAP
It not something that I have done or ever thought of doing as the there are specialist guys out there doing pressure washing and sealing but there must be some sealer on the market what will seal your flags to stop the green algae from returning ?

To grout under flags, there would have to be a big enough void for the air to be pushed out. Otherwise it will just stop dead, solving nothing. i reckon as they are'nt rocking, then jointing them up would be sufficient.
Hi Guy's and i am totally gutted but none are actually rocking as such and i think pointing will solve my problem as it has about 8 ton of MOT wacked in stages so the ground underneath is going nowhere rest assured frost or no frost.
I just got to find out a cheap way of keeping the flags looking clean now with some type of sealer.
Would anyone suggest jetwashing before i pointed or before ? as they really are Green flags now not Grey
i reckon a good jetwash might dislodge the lot
when its dry hoover any crap out of the joints then point with a strong mix
leave for 2 weeks then jetwash
wait till bone dry again then seal
