I'm in the process of getting quotes for work on my driveway and was wondering if anyone could advise me if the prices I'm getting sound right?

Basically the work is to lay 66 linear meters of 4x4 inch granite setts around the edges of the drive and to lay a wearing course of around 120 msq.

Prices so far ar between £2200 to £2900.

That's cheap (IMO)

66LM of 100*100 setts will be fiddly to lay.

Have you a written specfication?

Spec says cut out existing sub base and make good levels to garage door, lay 4x4 granite setts on concrete base to form edges, finally lay 20mm wearing coat over existing base tarmac.

One quote is from a local firm who have been in business for around 35 years. In fact it was my neighbour who suggesed them and his 26 year old drive still looks good, albeit a bit faded and grey! I've also looked at their other work, they have done 5 jobs in my street this year and everyone I've spoken to is satisfied.

Indeed, go for it.

Although a 20mm overlay will be hard to get a decent finish on, especially at this time of year.
