So regardless of the previous posts on the site, I managed to forget the dealine for when it was legal for retailers to sell sodium chlorate, meaning I will now either have bite the bullet before may next year when ownership/use becomes prohibted OR pay over inflated ebay prices.

Unless anybody has found a suitable alternative?

I only remembered about this at the last minute myself. After trawling round everywhere to get what was left in the market, found a garden centre, in the middle of nowhere, with loads of 25kg sacks. I bought the lot!!! Got some strange looks at the time. Saw on ebay today a 25kg sack, going for £150+!! [url=http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/25kg-Sodium-Chlor ... _Garden_Ga

rden_Plants_Weed_Pest_Control_CV?hash=item3ca63390a7&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14]Clicky[/url]. I only paid £40 each!!!

Anyway, to answer your question, 10th May 2009 was that last date for manufacture, 30th Sept 2009 was the last day to sell any remaining stock and 10th May 2010 to use up any remaining stock.

As regards to a replacement, there isnt one.
Well, there are alternatives, but the cost is ten times what Sodium Chlorate cost, and its no where near as effective!!!

Worst thing is that I was buying 25kg bags for £15 a year back.

Meh. Could have made a bastard fortune!

Withdrawal from Market

Sodium chlorate products are to be withdrawn from the market due to an EC decision on the chemical, and its associated hazards. They will be available until the 30th of September 2009 to purchase, and are given approval for their use by any person until 10th of May 2010.

From Wonkypeadia

COSHH regs probably. As its detrimental to all plants and little fluffy things, they want rid.

my information came from here. I am guessing you can sell it on ebay because you are not a retailer? perhaps the HSE in scotland hasn't banned it, if bobbi o can find a way of transporting it round the country, he could be looking at making a few quid, I for one will be intrested!!
