Grouting granite paving - Advice please

Hi everyone,

I have laid about 30m2 of Marshalls Eclipse light granite linear paving (900 x 150) as a patio at my place. As I have a polished concrete floor internally I have only left joints of 4mm to try and keep the paving looking as much like the floor as possible.

Whay should I use for the joints? Presumably something flexible?

Ideally it would a similar colour to the granite.

With joints at only 4mm, you've metaphorically painted yourself into a corner. Cement mortars won't last a week and all the resin mortars require a joint of 5mm minimum.

Joints of 2-5mm are typically jointed with kiln dried sand, which is just about your only option. You could then use a sealant-cum-binder to 'glue' it into place, if you so desired.

Glue it into place? I'm afraid I don't really understand. Do you mean that I should sweep it in dry and then apply a sealant on top?

Roloking I used vdw840 – polymeric sand for 4mm joints on calibrated lime stone slabs the trick is to make sure the area is as wet as an otters pocket before you apply it and buy a foam double blade squeegee also make sure you work it in to the joints if you find any low spot’s after the first spread use a clean trowel to top up before pushing it in before brushing off with a soft coconut brush, check each line systematically so you don’t miss any .I don’t know the depth of your granite but this stuff is the biz phone the NCC www.nccinaction.co.uk (01257 266696) and ask for David Mackay - he’s a lovely fella who’s happy to help
Here’s a pic of the finish I think it comes in 3 colors and it leaves a lovely gloss finish that wears off in a few days or 1 hour of Moonwalking on it..
