Laying Block Paving in a Rectangular Recess

I have a fairly steep sloping concrete driveway which has 2 narrow gulleys in it which are at present filled with large pebbles. I am thinking that block paving these gulleys would look nicer than filling with concrete. The width of the areas I would like to block pave varies between 440mm and 480 mm, so if I use 2 blocks length ways across the gulley that will leave me a gap of approx 40 to 80mm. Any one got any suggestions on my best course of action in filling this gap or any other better way of laying them?

I'm a bit lost here. Gullies are drainage pots, usually covered with a grating, also known as a grid. I'm wondering if you mean 'channels', rather than gullies?

Anyway, whatever they are, if you have a 'gap' of 440-480mm, then you are going to have to cut pioeces of block to make up the gap. However, rather than using, say, 2 blocks @ 200mm and then a make up piece @ 40-80mm, you should use 1 block @ 200mm and then 2 pieces @ 120-140mm, as any pieces less than half a block (100mm) should be avoided if possible.

Sorry for my crap description, a photo would have explained things better. Channels is a better description. Basically my driveway is an expanse of concrete which is wide enough to park two cars side by side and the channels filled with pebbles are underneath the cars.
Your advice of cutting two blocks sounds like the way to go- thanks. I guess I can hire a block cutter any idea how much together with a wacker plate?

You can get a splitter and a plate compactor for around 50 quid for a long weekend, if you negotiate with the Hire Shop.

Try and use a small, local hire shop, rather than someone like Hire Summat Spensive, as the rates are a lot more realistic.
