right boys need your opinions and past experiences

quoting on a job for a doctors surgery and the access is awful, 900 wide path down the side of the building we are used to big open site with 13 ton machines haha.

so my plan was to use a micro digger can hire one for 200/week and a 500kg tracked dumper 80/week. bring all the outcomings to the front and pile for grab wagon collection. only problem its on a busy main road and a bus stop.

i reckon there will be about 200 tons of stuff to come out in all with demolishing the existing sinlge story extension etc.

so anyone used these micro toys and recommend a good make etc or any thing to look out for etc.

i was also thinking of getting a high tip one and use our dump trailer and just park it on the road and being a pain to all other traffic haha.

I have the Kubota K008, and the TCp tracked dumper.


Have to say that they both compliment each over very well.
The skip on this machine tips right over, unlike its rivals

My only advice is be wary of where you hire the digger from. there are some unscrupulous plant hire people round here who turn the hydraulic pumps down on them to stop you doing too much with them.

This might be a strange question but is there not a wall you could knock down/rebuild for better access.

I've got a Kubota K008 and Seddon dumper for this sort of work. The dumper tracks well, carries the weight and has the lift to load a skip. What you can't do is make a big pile. If you're using grab lorries you'll save a lot of time by having a second digger to manage the pile. Might seem like overkill but you can't drive inclines with the little dumpers.

On the digger front, some micros have bigger grading buckets than others. Make sure the hire company has the full size grading bucket - should be about 900mm. If you only have a 600-700mm bucket the job will take a very long time.

we seem to specialise in poor access work and half the time when access is really bad you might as well get tore into it with hand tools

Micro and a 1000/1200 high-tip dumper tipping directly into 10-13 ton tipper trucks if space allows.

Otherwise dumper it to a transfer area for loading by a second machine. Protect surface with 1200 membrane and large ply sheets.

//edit Just saw it was a 900mm path, so a tracked dumper it is. You'd better price this job for the long haul Giles!

the other thing you could do is hire some shifta conveyors, and load them with the digger one end, and straight into a lorry the other!

all this various machinery is great,and believe me I am no luddite

but there is very little that can go wrong with a pick fork and barrow,also collateral damage is limited

pricing some barns at the minute and we can get 17.5 tonne machines in there

I dont know how busy the road is but most bcs hate muck being tipped on the footpath let alone the road

no, we're going to cut a new doorway into the front elevation and use the side path as our access to the rear. its a tight site, there is a dentist next door with access and carpark to the near that would be great for us but they are not playing ball despite offering to resurface their carpark and drive after works complete.

been on site today and met the builder who i'm quoting for

little more info, side path ranges from 900-1200 at widest point id we take out flag on edge and cut right back to boundary.

so might be able to back a 1 ton high tip dumper and cart straight into trailer. there not going to tow 25 tons of tractor and trailer haha.

side path is 10 metres long to the start of the new extension, 51 linear metres of 600x1200 footings and half of it is raised garden level is plus 800mm

single story extension big conservatory and a big slab of concrete to come out

then there is something like 40m3 going back in in footings and slabs.

Tony i wont be doing it by hand haha, i'm a machine man. hoping to get our 1.5 ton kubota in now, local family hire place has a jcb micro had a bit of a go today and wasn't impressed.

dismissed conveyors to much hassle and to slow.

there is a small garden to the front which we will remove and level cover with ply sheets and use as our yard probably 2m wide by 4 metres, travis perkins yard is 2 doors up haha.

but its on a main road in a busy town only through route so its going to be a bit of a pain. i'll look out for a mini kubota,

900mm seems big for a micro grading bucket? the one on our 1.2 ton yanmar is only that big.

you have to love these hard jobs haha. the spec for this job for my quote is 120 pages long, specified marshal saxon 600x600 but jointed for the paving as well.

blimey GB in the good old days before mini diggers and tracked dumpers everything was dug by hard and moved in wheel barrows....

but hey thats when men were men and put a good hard days graft in

Giles, the big grading bucket fits both the 3/4t and the 1.5t. The 3/4t JCB is not a machine I get on with, much prefer the K008 or Takeuchi. I have to rent them now and again when the access is even smaller than my fixed-track machine! Mine is 820mm wide vs 680mm on the JCB.

I like the 1.5t JCB though.
