Hi All

Going to have a go at bricking myself and get taught off my mate who's a brickie. Looking to get a first trowel.

I was looking to get something smaller to start with like a 10" but i do not want to fork out for a Marshalltown.

What can i get that is less expensive for personal use ?

Cheers

The cheaper tools arnt as well balanced as the Marshall town types and just lead to bad habits (and wrists) Theyre ok for ground working cause you lose/run over them often and you dont have to handle them all day.
Ebay is a good punt for a cheap one, try searching for a second hand, you'd be surprised.

1 of the brickies in our gang that have been working for us for 20 years plus now has a £4 cheapo trowl and does very well indeed with it, hes got 29 years on the trowl so that helps haha. good tools don't make you a good craftsman skill and experience do, we have a brand new js130 and yeah its quieter and the radio is better and its looks better but its no faster or stronger or reliable than the 1995 js130 we have kept as its not worth selling for 3k.

thats the trowel i use blibonic 19-11 ,london is the shape

I have seen people with weird out of shape trowels giles, but the bottom line is a decent trowel costs 20 quid and you will get 2 years out of it daily use
my 19-11 is down to about 19-9 1/2 when it gets to 8 i will cut it into a gauging or pointing trowel
those cheapo trowels have no balance
