Suggestions for terracotta patio - Help!

Hi LLL
Don't think I'm going for the shutters, but I do hope to include a mirror in my garden somewhere once it is done. I looked at Moroccan garden mirors and again they are really expensive. I'll probably buy the perspex mirror sheets from ebay and my partner is going to make some frames in the right shapes which we can paint.

Talking of ebay, I found this on there last night!

I'm keeping an eye on it but not bidding, as it is only a tad cheaper than the place John mentioned in an earlier post, with free delivery too. The ebay item is in Wrexham, which is miles from Bedfordshire so definitely not worth it.

i would stick with a retailer on this,if you buy the ebay lot and are short it could be a nightmare
looking forward to seeing pictures of freshly laid patio ,which i am sure your spouse cant wait to start (not)

My thoughts exactly

My partner spends every day laying patios and block paving so it'll be a walk in the park for him. I think he just wants to get on with it!

I'll post pics once it is all done, promise. What I can't promise is when that will be haha.

Hi all

Now that I'm on six weeks hols I've got time to go and look at all the paving choices open to me. Can anyone recommend anywhere in the Bedfordshire area? I went to Butterfileds in Luton last week but didn't see anything there that took my fancy. The guy from Westminster Stone has already told me where the nearest stockist of Old Provence is (almost an hour and a half drive away) but I thought I'd ask if there were any other centres.

butterfields ,gibbs and dandys, have to say i have never clocked your provence stuff locally
problem is ,if it doesnt sell ,they stop selling it

best to ask the manufacturer for stockists in this area,
henlow building supplies nr bedford may/may not stock them,try the thomson local

Hi LLL

I had an email from the MD of Westminster Stone this morning to say that the nearest local stockist of Old Provence is in Feltham, so I am hoping to go there in the very near future. Seeing a sample tile is all well and good but you can't beat seeing a display area.

In the meantime I'm keeping an open mind about other possible types of paving hence wanting to visit other places. Thanks for the ones you have named, I'll check those out in the next week or so I'm sure.

Best to ring before you make the journey.
I was after a local stockist for Stoneflair and was given a list.
However when I contacted them they all said that although they had accounts with Stoneflair they did not hold any stock.
Hope you have more luck.

Thanks for the tip - I was browsing one of the other topics earlier and someone said the same thing, but I thought as I had been given the stockist name by the manufacturer it would definitely be in stock. Will definitely call before I make the journey.

Been a bit quiet lately - making the most of the school hols. Am back in my home town at the moment and wondered if anyone could recommend a good paving centre to visit so I can see some examples of stone etc. Still looking at getting Old Provence but yet to see the real thing up close. I'm in Tyneside. Hope someone can help.

Thanks for the heads up Tony. I spoke to someone there this morning and sadly they have nothing in the way of terracotta at all. I referred to the things on their website but they told me that it was at least two years out of date!

Had an email from John at Westminster Stone and there are no stockists in the North East.

Looks like I am back to plan A

Hi all
Been very quiet since last summer, and still no paving (money had to be redirected into the pockets of a lawyer but that's another story).

In the intervening months I have looked at lots of paving and have decided to go back to square one and forget about 'themes' etc and just look for paving that I like and go from there. It won't be the end of the world if the fencing needs to be repainted after all.

I'm now considering black limestone as it will contrast well with my house which is red brick. I like the lighter coloured pointing and wider gaps between slabs. How will limestone stand up to vagaries of weather etc? Is there anything I need to look out for?

Thanks - hopefully the whole project will finally get off the ground within the next couple of months so it is ready for summer.

PS - new updated images on Google Earth illustrate beautifully why I have been lobbying the land management company where I live to reduce the height of trees adjacent to my property. Garden is south facing and this pic was taken at about 5pm.
