Water damage patio paving

Hi

During the recent bad weather the road gutters overflowed into my front garden and the Castlecomber? paving is now mottled black and is unlevel. I have got a number of quotes from €1000 to €4000 to lift the paving, relevel the garden, refitting the paving and power clean at the end. The work will take 2 days. My front garden is about 80sqmts. There are no fancy designs. My query is why the difference in quotes I only paid €2500 to have the garden done (4 years ago) and that was including the buying of the bricks. Also, I have been told by contractors that a power wash won't clean the paving that it needs to be chemically cleaned. I don't want to go to the expense of doing all of this and not liking the results. The quote to replace the paving is €6000. I am beginning to feel that I am being duped and already had a bad experience when replacing my gutters which instead of costing €1000 ended up costing me €3000 as I had to get another contractor in to fix the damage caused by the first guy. Can somebody please advise me what I should be looking out for?

Just to get this right what are the sizes of the individual areas to be sorted out. What kind of paving is Castlecomber.

Hi - my husband went to Fassaroe this morning. He was told that we can get the same paving as we have for €2500 to cover 80sq mtrs. So I guess my only real query now is the labour cost - the quotes are €1000 to €4000 to lift the existing paving, relevel the garden which is a flat surface, and repave. What should I reasonably be paying?

To lift and relay 80m2 including sand waste disposal etc would be around £3000 sterling rough ballpark. It is more than a 2 day job but some photes would and give us a better idea and a better discription of what needs to be done i.e does the existing stone base need replaced is all the paving and sand being dumped etc.

Buy cheap, pay twice. I think the original job, (supply and fit) , was very poorly priced, hence the undulating drive your stuck with now.
If you are going for a 'lift and lay' make sure the sub base is laid properly. Water laying on the surface shouldn't effect a good job.

Unless its a screaming torrent , obviously.

Hi, thank you for all your replies, my husband has spoken to the builder who quoted €6000 and he has dropped his price to €4000 which includes the cost of replacing the paving rather than cleaning. My husband says no more delaying and he has decided to go with this builder. Hopefully, all will work out okay.

Is this guy a builder or a paver there is normally a HUGE difference in quality of work. Bit like getting a Nurse to perform a doctors job they work in the same place but have different skills and training. Builders also have less of an eye for detail and levels and more of an eye on profit.

Hi Pablo - he is a builder but I have seen his work and it is to a high quality. There is very little building work available in Ireland these days and he has moved into the paving area. My husband is taking time off work so will be keeping a good eye on the work. It is alot of money but I asking around he seems to be genuine.
