Yes. My site rules are:
1. If you have to make a call or send a text, do so in your time, not mine, i.e. breaks only
2. If you receive a call please tell them "I'm at work, I'll call you later."
Emergency calls are obviously excluded from these rules.
At my wife's work they have a policy of phones on silent/vibrate only and no use during work hours. They have seperate work phones which are not for personal use at all.

my old foreman used to have a go at one lad always on the phone to his mates. his argument was that if they had time to call him during the day they must be unemployed...would he care to join them? :;):
seriously there is nothing worse than if you are grading or digging a trench, you want to see the man with the laser or traveller moving all the time, standing with the phone glued t the ear and leaning on the staff is not helping...how can you chat away and be watching what the bucket of the machine is doing?
its not only lazy, can also be dangerous, only last week we had 1 lorry driver tip up, answer his phone and as he pulled forwards the tipper body took out the goalposts and phone cable across the site haul road, 1 driver 1 banksmen both shouted stop...no internet in the carillion office for the rest of the week

Have to agree, people seem to believe its there god given right to watch a man struggle as they text away, work for a major M&E contractor, look out the office window and see the usual suspects sitting in the site smoking area on the phone for half an hour at a time, don't object to the good workers having a smoke etc as they have their smoke and get back to work. It`s the young lads who think its there right to sit there all day that annoys me.
God loves a tryer

your trying to make money ,not friends meany
i dont mind the odd call i.e. 1 every couple of days, but i had 1 plonker who sat all through teabreak not ringing, and the minute tea break was over he'd be on the phone to his mrs ,talking about what was for dinner etc could she iron his jeans .
i spoke to him about it ,and he accused me of being a misery,so i bagged him there and then
now he's got all the time in the world to talk to the missus, and he doesnt have a phone now because he cant afford the credit
its hard, but 30 minutes a day on the phone is £30 per week stolen from me,wont have it

My boss at work aint too keen on phone use and to be honest i dont blame him, i drive for a living and see it all day long others texing and driving at the same time, or even looking in one phone whilst on the other and still driving...
Well im getting a little wise of it now if a car, van or even a lorry is in the slow or middle lane all over the place they are on the phone mainly texting when i get next to them i give them a toot ... you should see the looks i get...
failing that they are on the tom tom of course...
I wish the law would clamp down on it more to be honest and also at work the guys work machinery and fork lifts and its an accident waiting to happen, so i say good on the boss...
he pays my mortgage!!!

I work for a large company and i must admit phone use is a big problem. Machine operators seem to be the worse for phone use, they have it wedged between the shoulder and lughole, or some of them just stop altogether and talk/text. There can be a dumper driver, banksman gen' opps, me waiting down the trench to bottom out, lay shingle, pipes etc; all waiting for the operator to finish. This can happen a dozen times a day, or more depending on the mans love life. There are 90 men on my job at the moment, so imagine how many hours are lost with every one averaging 3 or 4 texts a day. Having said that i find them invaluable for working out simple things on the phone calculator like..... cubing up, setting the lazer level, timer for air testing and general sums, also notes for materials i need. The mamagement tried banning phones on site but then the queues for the toilets were longer than the day, cant win really ???
