35mm is about right
at 25 mm you will be struggling to screed it

thanks, i'm just trying to make a simple site for people from my own experience (this site rules but i thought some people would appreciate a simpler version)- the pics are all stolen for now as its still under construction- just wanted something on there lol, so will change them soon.lutonlagerlout wrote:checked your site out matsfc, looks like you put a lot of hard work in to that
some good advice there, but is indian sandstone mined? or do you mean quarried?alos the pictures are a little small
but its a gazillion times better then anything i could do
fair play to you

as for my super thin sand advice- i know its not realistic but was just trying to emphasise the fact that less is best. i never lay drives but get told all the time that the key is the sand with blocking, lots of guys do it in layers but didn't wanna go into that. (i.e. different thickness bars and different compacting over 2 layers)
we've just found lots are using sand to make up levels which is an especially bad manouvre, so wanted to emphasise that.

That's a fair point, but the problem comes when a client gets the wrong end of the stick after reading your advice - I have no problem with laying the bedding course to 40mm after compaction and screeding; just 3-4 years ago we were all doing 50mm. Touch wood, I haven't had to go back to any of drives laid with bedding courses at these depths.
What you've written comes across as definitive which is a testament to your work, but it should be accurate and relfective of good practice as well.
