Tyre marks! - Marks on indian stone drive

I have just had a beautiful new Indian sandstone drive laid. Yesterday cars were driven on it for the first time - and they left black tyre marks over it!
I'm gutted. They don't brush off but do fade with a scrubbing brush, but I can't scrub the drive every day.
Surely this isn't supposed to happen?
I phoned the chap who laid it immediately (who has a very good reputation locally) & he said this has never been reported before.
Any suggestions? (Apart from 'park on the road' of course!)

its a difficult 1 as its not the contractors fault , the combination of hot weather making tyres softer and turning on the drive will leave marks on light coloured driveways , best to drive slowly on and off and dont spin the wheel whilst stationary, i know this doesnt help you now but at least you know why it happened and you will know for the future
the marks will fade with time/cleaning so at least you will still have a lovely driveway and its not ruined

jay - thanks for your reply. The hot weather/soft tyres bit could be a really good point. But - the tyre marks are a long continual track - as you would see if you drove through paint & onto paper. No speed at all & no wheel turning was involved, just straight on & straight off! You can follow the car's path down the drive. Most odd!

indian sandstone is NOT recommended for driveways for a number of reasons and this is one of them,other being thinness of the stone,and a tendency to laminate under duress

very strange but as LLL has pointed out this is just 1 of the problem when using sandstone on driveways this should have been pointed out to you by the contractor but then again somtimes , what the customer want the customer gets lol
mayby sealing it once all the marks are off will help this happening again

This type of stone was actually recommended to me! I didn't really have any idea what I wanted & in fact 2 out of the 3 quotes I got suggested Indian stone. Now I'm really depressed!!!

Sorry to be thick, but I'm not sure what you mean? There are roadworks ongoing on the main road that my quiet one branches off. . . .

have you driven through any fresh laid tar and got it on your tyres? MSH

Actually, its possible. 3 separate cars have made tracks, but see my comment above - its quite possible that we've driven over some fairly fresh tarmac.
Interestingly the black marks come off if I scuff them with my flip flop - anyone got a giant eraser?

I think it must be tar marks from road works and sorry to see this has happened to your new drive ....i bet you are gutted.

Gutted is right. However, am considering wild 'wear flip flops & nowt else' party to put everything right. No one will look at the drive anyway then. . .
