Sad day

Today i had to bid farewell to my old trainers. The cleaner at work thought they were rubbish. ( dont know where he got that from they only had a few rips and tears that let my sock stick out. ) I had to rescue them from the skip for the journey home, then made the fateful mistake of telling ' er indoors about it. Felt like a lad being tweaked by the ear to the shoe shop for new ones ( did'nt get any, still grieving ). The thing is they were cheap but so comfortable, the special in sole cost £150 to right the damage done by years of hand me downs when i was a lad, usually two sizes to small still got the original laces which i have taken out because they will come in handy for something. Wife has thrown them in the bin twice so far and i snook them back out. She also has her eye on chucking my old cardigan. Is nothing sacred ??? two minutes silence if you please.

I share your sorrow Sean, for I recently had a personal loss, a pair of old football shorts that I've habitually worn around the house for years. nothing to look at. best £8.50 I ever spent.

Looking for them for ages on friday, My old lady tells me they were sent to that great wheeled dustbin in the sky

when i was in the states back in 2001, i went into gap, and brought a black jumper for $2. it went straight to use as a work jumper, and it is still going strong!
you don't need to spend a fortune to get quality!

Don't throw them away.

In these hard times you could make a very nourishing broth. Most of the 'soups' I had in the Army tasted of old boots so a pair of trainers would be especially delishus.

Boil for three days with half an OXO cube and a tin of ALDI carrots and peas. Add salt and pepper to taste. Add a packet of frozen sprouts and a splash of Chateau Thunderbird 2009 before serving for that unique Heston Blumenthal touch.

Having had a quick shufti at the menu and price list at the Fat Duck, I reckon that you could easily sell it at £80 a bowl ( plus £8 for a petit pain du jour).

i was cold one day and didn't have a jumper but coat was to big, walked round the corner into the first charity shop and got a grey jumper fruit of the loom type they use with some company embroided on it for .50p still got it and still gets used 4 years on haha.

Did i mention about my trainers. i wander aimlessly from room to room. turned the tv on and there was an advert for....TRAINERS!! Sat around with just my laces to comfort me.

I find putting the old insoles in the new pair helps with the transition.
Its funny how something you happen upon, either bought or given, turns out to be the most endurable ,best fitting, comfy bit of kit you possess.

I know exactly what you mean, Got given a pair of well worn Gore-tex work boots by a relative when I broke my ankle a good few years back.
They were the most comfortable boots I've worn, but the grit salt proved too much for them this winter, and the seems fell apart. Still got them in my locker for the odd dry day that we get

Stuck now with a pair of boots that are way too heavy, and no doubt will just about last the summer

things have been bad between me and the mrs for a while now, littles ones 1st birthday next month and now she wants to end it.

i have a couple of bottles of vodka to keep me company shes in the spare room but its not looking good.

Giles, I'm sorry to hear that.

I've found the best way to dispose of old work footwear is to SELL them on EBAY.

There are some well-weird people out there; I recently sold a pair of well-worn size 10 steel toecapped boots, complete with tarmac on them for £9 +P&P to some footwear fetishist!

God knows what he's doing to them these days, wanking into them no doubt!

I think LLL gave me the idea of selling old footwear.

Listing them as "Well worn smelly tarmacers boots *GAY INTEREST* seemed to do the trick.
