Hello,I really need some advice please.
here the deal i would like to make a log path like the one in the second picture of this paving expert page the one with various sized logs.
http://www.pavingexpert.com/grdnpav1.htm
My garden is very dry clay and the path will be fairly big.im thinking roughly 1.5 metres x5metres
Im not sure where to start ?! and what bedding to use etc.

You don't sound dense Rosie - prob no replys, 'cos all the answers are right near your main site quote - ie, sub base & then laying course & bed them in. Lot of painstaking work - maybe it'll look fantastic.

ps - interesting web-site.
photies :)

hahaha maybe I should of double checked my post first..serves me right for doing two things at once I am going to edit it.
Anyway thank you for your replies. I have just finished laying concrete slab paving after getting all the how to from this site.after much work its fantastic
I still have some more questions probably very obvious to most even partly experienced landscapers...but not myself this is my first garden after living in a flat for 10 years. I know absolutely zero about landscaping so bare with me.
could someone please walk me through the whole log path laying process . I’m not even sure what mix to bed them in.

If you've laid your slabs according to the site, then the principle is the same - I don't understand? :(

thank you for replying again.
Ok here are more specific questions .what sand cement ratio would i need to set the logs?
How deep should I set them?
would I need mot1 sub base again?
would the logs need some sort of treating proir to setting them?
Thank you I know its going to be hard work ..i dont want to ruin it before i have began

This is just my approach - others may differ :
Questions-
1 - I'd use a relatively strong mix of 4:1 with plasterciser. (sharp sand)
2 - would prob go for a generous 50mm bedding layer - how are you going to slice the logs? - do you have them already?
3 - what do you mean again? - have you laid the path mot1 already?
4 - a good soak in Cuprinol or somesuch couldn't do any harm.
Does this help? Have you got some help? Photos would be good.
Best :)

hi thank you so much!.Have not laid the mot1 already not sure if this log path required it...??
The logs are not shop bought.A friend gave me wood from some trees she had removed they vary in size but all are on the smaller size probably is best to treat them .as you said it wont hurt
To be honest Im like the designer/foreman and my husband, father and brother in law are doing the hard stuff ...while they have been laying the paving slabs i made the tea and took out the weeds and stained the fence..and bossed.

Congrats Rosie, for keeping your menfolk thoroughly under control - normally, doing jobs like this, especially family, blokes go into "I know how to do this" mode.
Have they looked at main site?
My folks live in Watford (serious London clay) - amazing how it shrinks & expands during one year.
I would definitely lay a sub-base for your path. Even then...
You'll have seen this page....all the options.....
bedding - options
A "chop-saw" is a great bit of kit, and not too expensive.
Yours.
