Hi all,

I am relatively new to the landscaping industry, and am only starting my 8th patio and path.
I have been looking at the Easy Paver, and wondered what your thoughts are?

Looks very simple to set up and use, and looks pretty fool proof.

Regards
Dave

Just looked at the web site,it looks ok i guess not something i would buy ,but for someone starting out it might be off use, but the small boat level is not big enough to set a fall with you need a 4ft level at the very least or a laser or dumpy level for working the falls out,
depending how long the bars are it could speed up slab laying buy not having to keep knocking in pins to tie lines too on each for each course

The idea is good, but as with alot off the bright ideas they dont stand the test of time like a level, pin and line

The problem i can see is when repositioning the bars for a large patio is keeping the falls the same, the only way to do that would be to put a line up to set bars to

Hope this gives you some help MSH :)

If you've already done 8 jobs then I'd guess that this kit would just slow you down. Using pegs, strings and levels combined with experience is going to be much quicker. As msh says, a laser level is a good investment for rough setting out if you don't already have one.

you can buy a lot of lamp irons and sets of lines for 200 quid!!

I always lay paving with a line,as us brickies say "the line doesnt lie"
normally run 1 course 150mm below dpc ,then use a straightedge or pin the other end,set line up for square using a 3:4:5 and start laying

I saw this at Glee last year (comments here) and sadly it's just another gadget that might appeal to over-keen tool-obsessed DIYers but has no practical value to a professional paving contractor. Too many fiddly bits, too limited in the area that can be covered in each set-up, too inaccurate and too bloody pricey.

I really don't like pouring cold water on ideas on which people have obviously worked hard and invested a lot of time and money, but this is like so many other gadgets: it tries to tool-up what is already a simple and straightforward process, inserting unnecessary complication and extracting unwarranted money.

Yes: it will sell a few. The world's not short of cash-rich, intelligence-poor tool nuts, but I don't think we'll be seeing it on many sites, and, contrary to what the company behind the gadget told me, I don't think we'll be seeing it in every B&Q throughout the land, either!

hanks for the advive guys, but..... Has anyone actually done a physical reveiw/product test of this product??

Would be interesting to see what they will say, with having physically used this system.

Has anyone *impartial* carried out an assessment? Not as far as I know. I'm sure the manufacturers have, and I'm equally sure they gave it a glowing report, but I've not seen any independent assessment.

Some manufacturers send stuff to me and I get one of my pet contractors to try it out before putting together a full report. I've just done something for a stain-proof paving and I do quite a few site tests for Clark-Drain with their recess tray covers, but no-one from Easy-Paver has ever been in touch with me, and I'm buggered if I'm going to pay for one of their kits. Running this site already costs me enough!

are you connected to easypaver dave?
The easy paver may be of very limited use to DIYers with more money than sense (theres a few about)
but most of the lads on here, would have to be paid to use it

why would we need to contact them?
its them thats trying to flog it to us?

I don't have the time to be chasing every half-baked idea that comes along, and it's them that need the publicity, not me.

I spoke to them at Glee but they were not exactly communicative and seemed to take umbrage at what I considered to be fair criticism. I left my card; it's up to them to contact me.

I do occasionally contact purveyors or new or interesting products but about half never bother to respond. Either they don't want my input or they aren't aware of this site and the 150,000+ visitors it gets during each month of the season. If they aren't able to undertake basic market research, why should I expend any further energy chasing them?

The manufacturers/retailers/distributors that *do* make the effort to contact me generally find it to be useful. They might not always like what I have to say, but they have to admit that I am impartial and have the best interests of the whole industry at heart.

Thanks for the replies, i was just asking.

I don't know how the marketing and reveiw stuff gets done.

The only connection that i have with them is the order i placed yesterday.
