so i was at the inlaws this weekend down on Gower penisula in south wales and saw this. still haven't seen pic done right as it should be like you see state side.












directly across the road from it is a proper bit of local craftsmanship, its a small rural sea side village.

did they use a line on the acos?
i dont like PIC in this country,the yanks do it fantastic but it just doesn't happen here
it would probably have been cheaper to block pave it rather than do that pattern

Ed Lazenby does excellent PIC work and there are many others that do work in the UK just as good and often better as most of what you will see in the real world in the USA, i.e. outside of Vegas and Disney Land.

Unfortunately there are some cowboys in the UK business but the law here makes it possible - in the USA, a contractor has to apply for a licence to the council before they can turn a sod and at this point if they don't have the paper qualifications then no licence so no bodge up.

This having been said, the job in the pictures is far from being that bad in my view - they have tried hard to do it well and achieved a fair standard of finish, they have simply failed to properly work out the layout of the print and how to position edgers.

Because our show is aimed at the whole of the market, I am keen to see some objectivity between various systems - I've seen some pretty dodgy block paviour jobs around and about - but I would agree that irrespective of what preferences one might have, when a PIC job goes wrong it can be spectacularly bad whereas a bad block can still look OK and can usually be rescued without a great deal of trouble and cost.

As far as cost is concerned, from what I see, a good quality PIC contractor will be charging very much the same as a good installer of Block Paving.

Love loads of those finishes WOP, from the polished thru the exposed agg etc. - what always looks naff to me (nomatter how good the quality) is one material trying to be another - have you seen the pic decking? - yikes !!

I appreciate your balanced view WoP but to me PIC is like vegetarian sausages

i have that book "concrete at home" and some of the polished finishes are absolutely stunning and an art in their own right,

but i see more failed PIC than any other product round these parts
