you are correct there dave,was a blind price to show what this chap will expect to pay,if he follows new rules then you can add another £20m ontop +planning fees

better to pay 25% more and get a decent job,than go cheap and its sunk in 6 months

Mathew, a better way to go about this might have been to ask what the experts here would suggest is an appropriate guide price for your location, rather than demanding to get a service at a particular (and very low) price.

agreed its a low price to aim for but there a firms round my way that are doing them for less money , yes they are crap but if he is unluck enough to get quotes from 2 or 3 of these "all show no go " firms then he might be thinking this is the going rate

for me i rarly go under £60m2 for omega (normal) block paving and only up my meterage rate by the cost of the block ,access and ease of job etc

but i cant see how he is wrong in asking

I,m in Essex and will be quoting similar rates to the guys above , i.e between £60 and £70 per m sq. But of course there are several variables which will effect the final figure, like drainage, steps, manholes, kerbing etc etc.

There are PLENTY of people out there charging £40 per m for alpha blocks, considering they are £19 per m now.......You get what you pay for especially nowadays, i used to win my work on quality however its now getting a little silly as even recomendation jobs now seem to be interested in one thing, no care whatsoever about the actual job just the price.

You're right, punters are 99% interested in price, not how you are going to do the job the proper way and use a quality material (and not crushed concrete etc etc) - we are finding exactly the same.

hey dave i have to dispute that statement m8, I have been using type spec recycled crushed concrete for years and it is perfectly fine and performs in no way worse than quarried type one, whilst being cheaper and more friendly to the environment

I agree with that,in this area of norfolk very few sand pits supply type1 due to the fact they crush concrete to type 1 spec mainly from airfield runways,i have used crushed concrete for years with no problems,there is a very large market for crushed concrete,90% of main contractors use it for site and development roads MSH
