Full morter bed

My first post of many...

I have just purchased 15 square meters of stoneflair desert sand , sandstone patio flags. The stoneflair site recomends laying the flags on a full morter bed, after reading this wonderfull website i get the impression that i`d be better laying them on a semi dry bound mix, i.e sharp sand and cement maybe 6-1. My interperation of a full morter bed would be building sand 3-1 (Wet). They also recomend the addition of PVA to ensure a good bond to the flags.

Just after some advice from you guys. Is sandstone different from normal concreate flags/stone flags.

I always lay slabs on a full mortar bed but made from sharp sand and cement with a dash off feb. wet as brikkies muck tap em down to line and level mix 5-1 sand cement MSH

To clear up any confusion you should assume that any sand cement mix whether it be dry wet or plasticised is defined as a mortar. Once you get your head around then tradesmen call mortars by their application or water content. i.e Building,plastering, wet mix, dry mix, screed etc. Always lay on a full bed.
