Too much choice but only little advice

Patio flagstones (slabs), concrete flags, stone flags including yorkstone and imported flagstones.

2/3rds of the year half of our drive is caked in mud. The reminder is classy concrete. We have a lovely old Lincolnshire Farmhouse rendered in white and an attached stable block made of local red brick. The drive is 330 m² in an L shape.
All I am looking for is a cover, which won’t break the bank (removing the concrete is going to cost a small kings ransom already) but is in keeping with the style and age of the house. The drive should also double up as a play area for our two daughters.
Any suggestions welcome.

Many thanks in advance!

One of Simeon's resin bonded products sounds like the most suitable option if you already have a concrete substrate.

Take a look at the Scattercoat page and see what you think.

Other than that, all you can really use is a bitmac Overlay or perhaps one of the Decorative Concrete techniques, such a stencilling.

If none of them suit you taste, then your only real option is to jack-hammer the concrete, get shut, and start again.

Thanks for your speedy reply!
Scattercoat looks great at first glance. I have filled out the query form on Ronacret's web page. Can't wait to get some idea on price.
Also had a quote from a local contractor to remove the 132 m² of existing concrete for 620 Pounds, which makes it viable to start from scratch, too.
(Almost sounds to good to be true...)

It may well be worth getting a good landscape designer / architect to design the area; It may seem an extravagence, but a good designer will take into account the site, your practical needs, your aesthetic preferences, and your budget. Very often the desired effect can be achieved by having a moderate amount of what you really would like, complimented by gravel / decorative aggregates for instance.

For 'sympathetic' garden design (or a landscape design that doesn't look as though it's been designed!) Try The Ability Garden Company based in Northwich (07879 68529) - they are also contractors.

For reproduction flags, tiles, cobbles, bricks and landscape accessories and features, contact Westminster Stone - Also distributors of natural stone from the UK and abroad. www.westminsterstone.com

Good luck

Hello from Simeon, the Ronadeck Fast Grip man.

Yes you can certainly apply Fast Grip to concrete but it must be sound and stable. If it is crumbly, weak, friable, then it's a no go. If it is somewhere in between good and bad quality, we can possibly recommend some preparatory work to it before you lay the Fast Grip.

As to material cost, reckon on about £15-£25 per m2 for resin, aggregate and seal coat (optional). Price range depends on the aggregate you choose which determines the thickness of resin. Plus the cost of patch repair or screeding / levelling materials if needed.

If you want to lay it yourself - which you can - come along to Harlow for training (we do charge). If you want a contractor whose done it before, we have those as well.

Hope this is of use - and interest - and to hear from you. Today is our 35th birthday (no joke, serious) so it would be nice for you to "present" use with an order. That's not too pushy is it?

See www.ronacrete.co.uk/menu/ron_pro_fl_fastgrip.html for more info.

Have a great day.

Simeon

I wonder if it would be worth getting in one of those machines that munch up concrete and using it as the base for a new drive? It seems silly to cart away the concrete and then bring in hardcore.

Happy Birthday to Sim and all the crew at Ronacrete - you don't look a day over....errr.....well....thirty-five, I suppose! ;)

To Jon (Danensis) it's worth finding out a hire cost for a little mobile crusher and working out how much you could saze. I'm not sure where you'd get one in your neck of the woods, but I'm sure that Red Rhino company(??) that was mentioned here a while back would be able to point you in the right direction.

If you do get one in, I'd like to nip over and photo you using it, so we could do a feature on the website. Let me know....

I keep my youthful looks by bathing daily in a warm spa bath of asses milk filled lovingly by buxom virgins who attend to my every need and desire, satisfying my every wish until I am rudely woken by my radio alarm at 10 past 6 and my dream is broken. Damn!

Yet I still manage to look gorgeous, stunning and radient.
