Not had an abcess but I've got an aching offside bollock if that helps you in your plight!

(I've seen the quack, it's at times like this I wish I had a female doctor lol!!)

I've got some pills too! :p

Antibiotics will not help. It just puts off the inevitable root canal filling. Sometimes hot salt water helps (swilling not drinking!) but just go back to the dentist and ask him to drill through the back of the tooth and let it drain outwards. Instant relief. And don't let him pack it with anything for a few days so it fully drains. Ignore all the bullshit. The moment he drills that little hole leap out of the chair and tell him you will be back in a few days. If they seal the hole it stops draining. Trust me.....poor boy....bloomin' agony

Oh Yeh, been there got the T Shirt

I remember being in agony on a job one Saturday, as windy as hell and it was catching my teeth and making things twice as bad. One of the lads went and got me a half bottle of Bells (spit) to swill with.

Next morning i was outside the emergency clinic 30mins before it opened, when i was sat in the waiting room a little girl came in with her mam and she was breaking her heart so i let her go first.

But it was a close call !

The relief when they fired up that drill and released the gunk :)

Yes know what its like. I had it before christmas ended up with two root canal fillings. It took two visits a week apart, first to open them up drain & clean. Then the next week he cleaned again then filled them.
Good luck.

my brother was taken ill and for weeks he lost weight, was on his last legs. had every test possible, it affected his heart and was told they could'nt do anything else. almost dead, then a dr sent for the dentist and they found a rotten tooth that had been poisoning his system. they treated him and within days he made a full recovery. worst tooth ache i ever had was someone elses that was embedded in my knuckle, went septic. impetuous youth a? ???

The most disgusting taste ever! I had to have one drilled and drained - it was just behind my nose but they went went in through a tooth. The teeth and most of the tongue might have been numbed, but somehow the sickening discharge found enough still-awake taste-buds to make me retch.

The AB's will see it off, but the best thing for the pain of toothache is aspirin. Two dissolved in a third of a cup of water and held in the mouth on the side that's affected most badly.

Forget that dentist. Go to your local dental clinic. They will do basically what you ask. Just tell them to drill a hole in and allow it to drain.
I cannot understand why in God's name they make you suffer when the inevitable result will be the same.
Let me tell you a little story.
My second hubby was a dentist. We had only been going out for a few months and I was still in the dewy phase of wanting him to think I was perfect.
So when I developed an abscess and was a week into the agonising malarkey you are going through via my own dentist, he said to me
"Let me fix it for you"
And I through tears and an overwhelming compunction to punch someone....anyone, said "NO!!
He threw me in the car, drove me to his surgery and within 30 secs of being in the chair I had flung my arms around him (after of course rinsing and spitting) swearing undying love and feeling blessed instant relief.
Sadly it was all downhill from there but that's a whole other story.
Get to the clinic...

Oh and sorry to sound patronising but I also had a 25 yr old female dentist. It's all that straight out of dental school, stuff your mouth with cotton wool, wear dark glasses to shield your eyes, follow procedures bullsh*t.
I am sure in your line of work you have come across the same type. Know how to follow the rules but not how to actually circumnavigate a problem and fix it because of lack of experience on the job.
You need an old timer love!
