how much sand and cement do i need to render a 10msq area and what ratio should i use? side of a garage moderate rain exposure. would appreciate all good advice. thanks kes

Well in this weather id use a 5-1 scratch coat with just plasticiser in it, and the background would be primed with PVA or SBR , then for the top coat id again use a 5-1 mix with either render mix additive or just general waterproofer.

Id say half too three quarters of a tonne of sand and about 3 bags of cement should be plenty.

No worries i said this weather as in the background being damp and the temp being low so the moisture will not be sucked out of the scratch coat via the background, in dry summer conditions id use waterproofer in the scratch coat aswell to stop suction.

If this is outside, please don't use a PVA. PVA breaks down on exposure to damp and wet.

Better to use Ronafix, diluted 1:1 with water and added to the cement and sand to give rendering/plastering consistency.

Also use Ronafix with cement, 1:1, as a bonding primer to bond it to the prepared substrate.
