Gravel drive - Using a layer of textile

Setts and cobbles, tarmac, asphalt, resin systems, concrete whether it's plain, patterned or stencilled, gravels, etc.

Hi Tony
I'm laying a 17m x 7m gravel drive onto solid clay here in france. I've been told it's a good idea to lay sheets of a textile called BIDEM on the clay before we lay the first layer of substrate. The local material for substrate is 30/50 broken chalk and the bidem stops the chalk and clay combining. I know some people don't do this - do you think it's necessary?

So, this geo-textile would be positioned between chalk sub-base and the clay sub-grade, with the gravel laid over the sub-base? That's sounds reasonable.

I'd be more concerned if the geo-textile was to be positioned between sub-base and gravel.
