i beg to differ on that one. 3" posts ,maybe, but 4" no. The first fence i ever did in 1993, using 4x4 wooden posts is still upright, and the panels are still sound, because i used a gravel board
Concrete is ok, but i am fed up with humping all that weight around.
I try to persuade them to the slotted plastic posts. they are stronger and lighter.!

Things have "picked" up a bit here everyone seems to be relatively busy considering whats happening in the economy, ive had quite a few calls and as a result am busy, but doesnt take much only me and a laborour!

Also i dont think things are quite as bad up here in the north as down in the south.

And likewise i have been undercut on quite a few jobs, how some people can get so low on there prices is beyond me, they must be workin for peanuts or summat:p

well yes and that, i didnt want to put it that way but your right.

If getting a job means skimping on materials and quality, id rather not do it, as id have no satisfaction with the end product.

Nasty concrete posts remind me of growing up in the 50's. They disintegrate quickly - rotting from the inside by that cheap steel. There's an old chestnut, about timber growing from the earth anyway? - or something like that?
Just priced up 40m of fencing -
The difference between using panels (2m centres) - as opposed to notched posts (3m centres) arris & f/edge & gravel was only £200.
Not enough price difference to the total cost, to warrant suburban look, versus quality. Posts are 125x100.
As for plastic posts, that's almost as bad as upvc windows & doors. Warp, discolour in 2/3 yrs.
Sad thing is, I still use concrete to bed the posts in - you can shoot me down...!

well i have seen the plastic and they look good after a few years so you are wrong there suggers,and i hav eseen wood fences last a long time,so dan i right in that sense
but personally i am a concrete post and gravel board man all the way,never had a comeback on it in 25 years so it does for me

i suppose it keeps them busy rather than sitting at home waiting for the phone to ring. also keeps the good name out there.

they must be V notched posts. Posts designed for those who do not know how to put up arris rails and morticed posts!

not at all. I concrete all my posts in. How else can you do it. (mention metposts and you will be shot down!)
Just put to 6x6 gate posts in, and slurry filled them with concrete. when you are hanging a field gate from it, its got to be strong!

had to hand dig two column bases in a guys living room today ,engineer assured me that the house would be trench fill concrete so we just had to dig down 450 to top of existing found,needless to say the found was 975mm down not much fun digging a hole 450 by 450 that deep by hand.
its all character building i suppose :;):

been thrustboring electric duct in this morning,sent 45 mm mole through tried to tow duct in behind kept jamming , sent 55mm through towed duct through ground was getting wet and messy as frost came out,finially at 3.30,45mins drive home then got roped into another mole job for my mate just in the door at 5,45 on a sat night,gota go back and oick compressor up in morning,who what to work for themselves.....

hi flowjoe, i have a 45,55,95,110 mm mole,s all grundomats,

the 110mm will fit 100mm pipe but you need to use the overpriced short sections tt-uk sell,

i was fitting 38mm elect duct sat. but the ground was very stick fen soil so the duct would not slide easy

im thinking about selling the 95mm mole,if the right price came along....... ???

We have the aussie mole kit up to 35mm for water feeds only, is your kit the same pneumatic moling gear ? does it follow a laser or do you point it in the right direction and hope.

I am not in the market for new kit but might be able to throw some work your way, i will P.M you later
