Driveway paving

Hi diddly ho fellow grafters. I have finally cracked under the pressure from the boss indoors to sort her a driveway. Just a couple of pointers are needed from someone more in the know.I am a builder so have a fairly good knowledge of good practice etc (i think ??? ) I am going to lay 80mm thick marshalls tegular or equivelant. The ground is fairly clayey hence my worries for the sub base to be sound. Im thinking of digging out to 12"/300mm or so then putting 5"/125mm of scalpings/hardcore compacted very well by my soon to be grafting son!! Then 4"/100mm of mixed balast (our supplier has gravel down to dust so it binds well) and cement mixed to a semi dry consistency (i do have large 16' x 8' sheets of rebar mesh left from doing a large retaining wall that i could put in this layer for extra strength) This is where i may be going wrong. I was planning on screeding and compacting this semi dry mix as per norm (ie screeding rails) and laying the blocks straight on this. Is this a good idea or am i asking for a headache? I really need it to be very sound as we have a car and vans etc hence the thought of steel rebar. I have done plenty of paths for customers but only foot traffic using sharp sand to screed. Any advise would be very welcome. Thanks very much. James

hi benzy, buy all means did out 300mm but put back type 1 to allow 60mm block and 40mm compacted sharp sand, on a domistic driveway with a small truck 60mm blocks will be fine,
laying blocks on a compacted lean mix base is a no not at all never, block paving is a flexible paving not ridged,forget the mesh in lean mix waste off good mesh,
if you want to do a lean mix base 120-150mm lean mix then lay the paviours on compacted sand as normal 60mm block 40mm sharp sand
