A reward has been offered for the return of a stolen £53,000 gold-plated, diamond-encrusted model of a tractor.

The model, which is one of only 500 made, is of a 1931 Caterpillar Sixty diesel tractor.

It was taken from the offices of tractor dealer Finning UK Ltd in Cannock, Staffordshire, on 20 December.

Now the company is offering an undisclosed reward for information that leads to a conviction of the thief and the safe return of the model.

As soon as I saw that, I thought: "why?" Why would you gold-plate and diamond encrust a model Cat? The original was nowt like that, so how does embellishing it with metal and rock make it better? And where was it kept that made it so easy to rob?

Let's face it: that's a one-off piece, and so the best chance of selling it is as components - prise off the diamonds, smelt the gold, and then chuck the rest away.

I’ve just been sat starring at the picture, and I can’t see a thing to admire about it

In fact, the tracks remind me of my dad’s old watch strap – although, despite the lack of any real precious metal in that strap or watch of me dad's, it was far more pleasing on the eye than that bit of bulldozer bling :D
