so i was chatting to some brickies today on a job and they where saying the guy who did their groundworks charged them £300 a day for him and machine and then everything else on top. he hires in all his 3 ton.
so when i'm pricing jobs i price myself at £200 a day under 5 ton and £250 a day upto 13ton. we have all our own machines, dumpers, rollers, wagons etc and generally might use a few bits of plant in a day say.
so am i too cheap or is he to expensive, he's knda of my local competition but he only does footing and drainage and then leaves the site.
£250 is looking like a better rate to use.
giles
Day rate with machines???

6 wheel tipper £40 per hr or £400 a day, 8 wheeler-£430
ped roller per day-£50
jcb 3cx with operator, fuel, travel to site-£400 per day
labour-inc van and tools £160-£200 per day per man
thats my top line rates and a basis for all pricing.not cheap but neithers being in business.

GB it's all relative to where you are and what people are prepared to pay and what kind of profit you make. I would say that for N/Ireland those rates would be what agri contractors would charge and add another £50-£100 for proper groundworkers. Do your rates include transport /fuel and setup costs or is that an extra. Also most people would charge more for a single days contracting than they would if they were on site for a week or more. Your cost of living and average wage are higher than here also. Not a nice time to be upping your rates maybe try it out on any new business first and then phase it in in stages with your regulars. I did that a while a go and offered them a discount on the new rate if they booked work in before a certain date. It generated a lot of work and gave me a good buffer to get new clients on board.
Can't see it from my house

fuel included, not transport
its what i use to work out my quotes for my time minus any other costs, no margin and no other costs etc. say a drive might take 5 days to scape off, re stone, roll and then get bitmac down so i work out that i'll be there 5 days with machine so that'll be £1000 for me to start with then,+ 2 guys, +materials etc
i guess i'm cheap as i am using all our own plant, dad runs a construction company building houses so we have loads of gear knocking around when its not on his sites.
looking at what bobbi says then for say 7 ton which is same as our 3cx looking more like 400 a day. as i can shift a lot of muck using that on a full day.
especially when my organising the job, setting out, fronting for materials etc well yeah basically doing everything.
phasing it in on new jobs its a good idea and reward existing customers with a better rate.
