What sort of geotextile for a soakaway?

Foul and surface water, private drains and public sewers, land drains and soakaways, filter drains and any other ways of getting rid of water.

I'm replacing a domestic soakaway in my garden in an area where there are quite a few roots from trees and large shrubs. Given that the last soakaway in that area became filled with silt and roots, I want to use a good quality geotextile to minimise or prevent the same problem arising in the future.

So, what sort should I use?

From the Terram website, it looks like the best choice would be Terram Root Guard, but I'm looking for confirmation that this is the right stuff for the job. Apparently it's equivalent to Terram 3000 with a weight of 260gr./sq.m. Permeability is 55 litres/sq.m./second. This is less than for most 'normal' soakaway fabrics, but sounds adequate.

Is there anything that's more suited to the job than Root Guard?

Can anyone point me in the direction of somewhere that sells this sort of material in relatively small quantities - i.e. enough for a 1 cu.m. soakaway?

I am planning to relay my gravel drive and use a geotextile as a stabiliser and weed control membrane. If there's a material that's suitable for use on the drive and in the soakaway, then having to buy a much larger quantity would be OK.

Good to see the site online again, by the way :)

well for a 1 cu m soakaway you need a piece of terram or multitrack 4 m2 ,effectively you need to make a parcel of your crates or hardcore
most builders merchants sell this stuff and its fairly cheap

Terram used to have a site by the name of Garden Fab where you could buy online 10 sqm packs of their most popular fabrics, but it's disappeared for some reason. However, all is not lost as I've just found its apparent successor, with a much more sensible name -Terram Direct
