I'm not sure what you mean about the dpc having 2 layers - do you mean the dpc is stepped and so can be observed at 2 different levels on the house brickwork?

there are 2 layers of membrane visible with a brick in between.

Monica it looks like the guy who built your house was intoxicated. I would tend to go for the course that is below the finished level of the internal floor. id then take your paving to 150mm below this. better still ill come round and sort it for you, wink wink

It may be a lap course in the dpc. This was done on some properties where the dpc level changed to tally with varying ground levels.

However, the important bit, as far as you're concerned, is that you should work to 150mm below the lower of the two DPCs.
